Known for his many chamber pieces, Reger, spurred perhaps by his friendship withArnold Mendelssohn, also composed practical liturgical works for chorus, of which hisPsalm100 (1909, op. 106) is his best known, and about 30 publications fororgancontaining over 190 pieces, many based onchoralesand most exploiting Baroque forms such asfugue. Some are intended for moderately skilled players, while others require a virtuosoorganist.
