The most talentedFlorentinepainter of the generation followingMasaccio, whose style influenced him greatly. He thoroughly assimilated the techniques ofperspectivedefined byFilippo Brunelleschiand first successfully applied to painting by Masaccio. The technical mastery demonstrated in hisLast Supper(ca. 1445-1450) was confirmed by hisDavid, completed about five years later.
