Achillini, Alessandro: translation

Italian physician, anatomist, and philosopher, a moderate follower of the "Averroistic" interpretation ofAristotlethat dominated philosophical teaching in 15th-century Italy. His philosophy reflects the influence of the Englishscholasticphilosopher William of Ockham. Educated at theUniversity of Bologna, Achillini taught logic, natural philosophy, and medicine there and atPadua. He was an early practitioner of dissection of the human body. His chief medical works wereHumani corporis anatomía/Anatomy of the Human Bodyand the posthumousAnnotationen anatomicae/Notes on Anatomy(1520).
