KURIGALZU I

(reigned C. 1430–1380 B.C.)
Kassite king of Babylon. He is best known for his architectural projects, especially the foundation of the Kassite royal city Dur-Kurigalzu. In an effort to gain legitimacy and support from the Babylonian elites, he restored Ur, which had been badly damaged during the conquest of the Sealand, as well as monuments in other southern cities, notably in Uruk and Eridu.
