ARABS: translation

Semitic, tribally organized people subsisting through seminomadic and nomadicpastoralism andtrade. They were able to expand throughout the Arabian peninsula after the domestication of the camel in the second millennium and facilitated trade across this inhospitable region.Arab groups were first mentioned in the first millennium B.C. in Assyrian records. Arab contingents, for instance, fought in the great coalition against ShalmaneserIIIin 853. An Arab queen, Samsi, fought against Tiglath-pileser III in 732 but was forced to pay tribute. Reliefs from Ashurbanipal’s palace at Nineveh show Assyrian troops doing battle against Arabs on camels in retaliation for their support of the Babylonians.
