United Nations(UN) peacekeeping force established to monitor theIsrael-Syria Disengagement of Forces Agreementof 31 May 1974. The force was authorized by UN Security Council Resolution 350. Its area of operations extended 80 miles from Mount Hermon in the north to theJordan Riverin the south. Its original mandate was for six months, but this has been extended every six months since 1974. It is considered one of the most successful long-term UN peacekeeping efforts.
