PERETZ, YITZHAK HAIM

Born in Morocco, Peretz served as chief rabbi of Ra'anana. Elected to theKnesseton theSephardi Torah Guardians(SHAS) list, he served in theGovernment of National Unityestablished in 1984 as a minister without portfolio (until December 1984), as minister of the interior (from December 1984 to January 1987), and as minister without portfolio (from May 1987 to December 1988). He became minister of immigration (seeALIYA) and absorption in the government formed in December 1988 and retained that position in the government established in June 1990.
