MANDELBAUM GATE

The sole access point between Israeli- andJordanian-held parts ofJerusalembetween 1948 and 1967. Although according to the 1949armistice agreementwith Jordan, Israelis and other Jews were to have access toreligiousholy places in the old city via the Mandelbaum Gate, in reality access was made available only to non-Jews. The gate was one of the fronts used by Israeli forces that retook the old city in theSix-Day War(1967).
