MAJADELE, RALEB

Majadele became Israel's first Muslim Israelicabinetminister in January 2007. Born in Baka el-Gharbia in northern Israel, he served as head of theeducationandsportsdepartment of theHistadrut. He represented theIsrael Labor Partyin theKnessetbeginning in 2004. On 29 January 2007, he was appointed minister without portfolio in Israel's 31st government; he served in this portfolio until 21 March 2007, when he was appointed minister ofscience, culture, and sport.
