ISRAEL—SYRIA DISENGAGEMENT OF FORCES AGREEMENT

An agreement betweenSyriaand Israel achieved in May 1974 through the shuttle diplomacy of Secretary of State Henry Kissinger of theUnited States. It brought about the reaffirmation of the cease-fire achieved at the end of theYom Kippur War(1973), the disengagement and separation of Israeli and Syrian military forces on theGolan Heights, and the creation of disengagement zones between the opposing armies.
