The concept of Israel's retaining permanently all ofEretz Israel, including the territories occupied in theSix-Day War(1967) as well as parts of historicPalestine"promised" to theZionistsin theBalfour Declarationand the League of Nations mandate for Palestine. Inherited from theRevisionistsofVladimir Ze'ev Jabotinsky, it was the bedrock ofLikudideology for many years.However, the Greater Israel concept also found expression among veteranMapaiactivists as well as amongTehiyaand other right-wing movements that were opposed to the territorial concessions made in theCamp David AccordswithEgyptand the concessions in theWest Bankand theGaza Strip, made by both Likud- and Labor-led governments in negotiations with thePalestine Liberation Organizationand thePalestinian Authorityensuing from theOslo Accordsand theRoadmap.
