Goldberg, Lea: translation

ProminentHebrewpoet, critic, and literary scholar. Born in Koeningsberg,Germany(East Prussia), she immigrated (see ALIYA) toPalestinein 1935. Her first volume of Hebrew verse,Tabaot Ashan(Smoke Rings) appeared shortly after her arrival inTel Aviv. She joined the staff ofHa'aretzandDavarand became the children's books editor of the Sifriyat Poalim publishing house and literary advisor to the Habonim Theater. She also served as literary editor and theater critic foral Hamishmar. In 1952, she founded the Department of Comparative Literature at theHebrew University of Jerusalemand remained the department's chair until her death inJerusalem.
