WAGNER, HEINRICH LEOPOLD

(1747-1779)
Playwright. Wagner was closely associated with theSturm und Drang(Storm and Stress) movement, having attended the University of Strasbourg withJohann Wolfgang Goetheand Jakob Lenz. He wrote two plays of note:Die Reue nach dem Tat(Regret after the Deed, 1775) andDie Kindermörderin(The Child Murderess, 1776), both of which were epigones of Goethe and were premiered byFriedrich Ludwig SchröderinHamburg.
