THALBACH, KATHARINA

Actress, director. Thalbach began her career playing children's roles in productions by her fatherBenno Besson. She made herBerliner Ensembledebut in 1968 and remained with that company until 1972, when she began working with the EastBerlinVolksbühne. Thalbach left East Berlin in 1977 to work with the Schiller Theater company in West Berlin, and after 1983 worked extensively in Zurich. She returned to the Schiller Theater in 1989 as a director, and in 1990 herHamburgThalia Theater production ofMacbethin 1990 was invited to the BerlinerTheatertreffen.
