(1882-1949)
Critic, dramaturg, scholar. Stahl was an important "non-Berlin" critic; he frequently visited the
German theater capital but remained inMunichor his native Mannheim nearly all of his career. Stahl was among the first to recognize the importance ofRichardWeichert's work in Mannheim and later in Frankfurt am Main. He was also significant for his interest in stage design; few reviewers before him wrote much about design's role in a production, and he frequently organized museum exhibitions of stage designs.
