SEYDELMANN, KARL

(1793-1843)
Actor. Seydelmann began his career with a troupe of court theater actors, but his first professional engagements were in Breslau, Graz, and Prague. He established himself as a serious actor inShakespeareanroles at the Court Theater in Kassel during the 1820s. Later he worked in Stuttgart, where he took on directorial duties and solidified his national reputation as an actor. Seydelmann was among the first actors to make a name for himself as Mephisto. His performances in that role inFaust, Part 1at the Royal Theater inBerlinconfirmed Seydelmann as one of the most outstanding actors in Germany between 1838 and 1842.
