SCHLÖSSER, RAINER

Dramaturg. Schlösser wasJosephGoebbels's chief functionary in the Ministry of Propaganda as Reichsdramaturg during the Hitler dictatorship. He had responsibility for licensing performances of all plays "in fulfillment of theater's task in a National Socialist state." One of his primary tasks was to ascertain the political "reliability" and ethnic "purity" of all theater artists. Schlösser was dedicated to the National Socialist cause, helping to promote the work of playwrights whom the regime favored.
