LAMPE, JUTTA

(1937- )
Actress. Lampe was associated with the Schaubühne am Halleschen Ufer inBerlinat the height of its renown from the 1970s through the mid-1980s, appearing in numerous productions directed byPeter Stein, Luc Bondy, andKlaus-Michael Grüber. She differed fromEdith Clever, the Schaubühne's other grand dame, in that her despair had more pathos. As Solveig inPeer Gynt, she seemed a saint who had been totally secularized, and as the goddess Athena at the conclusion ofThe Oresteian Trilogy, she beamed benediction as she transformed the Furies into protective spirits. Other important productions in which she had leading roles included Maxim Gorky'sSummer Folk, Anton Chekhov'sThe Three Sisters, and Pierre Marivaux'sThe Triumph of Love.
