Director. Beier has the distinction of directing severalShakespeareproductions during the 1990s in their original English-language versions, attracting large audiences to them and winning wide critical acclaim in the process. For her production ofRomeo and Julietin Düsseldorf in 1994, she received the "young director of the year" award from numerous publications. After completing studies in English literature at the University of Cologne, she formed a theater group called Countercheck Quarrelsome, devoted to producing both Shakespeare and contemporary English-language plays in Bochum,Munich, Vienna, Cologne, and her principal base of operations, Düsseldorf. She has also regularly directed German-language productions at theDeutsches SchauspielhausinHamburg, along with highly praised German-language productions in Bonn and Bremen.
