APPEN, KARL VON

Designer. Best known for his work with theBerliner Ensemble, of which he became principal designer in 1954. Appen began his career in Frankfurt am Main working for private theaters. His designs forBertolt Brechtresembled those ofCaspar NeherandTeo Ottoin the 1950s, emphasizing an abstract practicality.
