ANSCHÜTZ, HEINRICH

(1785-1865)
Actor. Anschütz had more than 250 roles in his repertoire at theBurgtheaterinViennain the mid-1800s, as one of that institution's most versatile performers.Heinrich Laubeconsidered him a worthy successor toFriedrich Ludwig SchröderandAugust Wilhelm Iffland, though that estimation is no doubt somewhat exaggerated. His vocal work was extraordinarily resonant, and many considered his Lear and Falstaff among the best of his generation.
