ADALBERT, MAX

(1874-1933)
Actor. A comic actor originally in the Wilhelmine vaudeville mold of Max Pallenberg andGuido Thielscher, Adalbert achieved notoriety in the Weimar period for his work withMax Reinhardt. He replacedWerner Kraussin the title role ofCarlZuckmayer'sDer Hauptmann von Köpenick(The Captain of Köpenick) in the summer of 1931, which several critics found more "empathic" than the original casting.
