Cinematographer and film pioneer. The elder brother ofLouis Lumière, Auguste Lumière assisted Louis in the development of thecinématographe, the first film camera, and aided him in the founding and running of the Studios Lumières as well as the Lumière's photographic and filmmaking business. Auguste was not, however, the filmmaker or the technical genius his brother was. Rather, he served as a steady right-hand man in the operations.
