Actor, director, and producer. Charles Berling acted in the theater before appearing in his first film, Marc Lobet's 1982Meurtres à domicile. He appeared on television and played minor roles in the early 1990s before being nominated for aCésarfor Most Promising Actor in Pascale Ferran'sPetits arrangements avec les mortsin 1994. He played prominent roles inClaude Sautet'sNelly et Monsieur Arnaudin 1995 and Marion Vernoux'sLove,etc. in 1996. In 1997 he received a César nomination for Best Actor for his work inPatrice Leconte'sRidicule. He was again nominated for Césars for Best Actor for his performances in Anne Fontaine'sNettoyage à secin 1998, Cédric Kahn'sL 'Ennuiin 1999, andOlivier Assayas'sLes Destinées sentimentalesin 2001.
