MATONGE

The Matonge district inIxellesis located near avenueLouisebetween chaussée de Wavre and chaussée d'Ixelles. It is the center of the Congolese community in Brussels, who congregate here together with other Africanimmigrants. The area began to attract African immigrants andexpatriatesin the 1970s, when they were drawn here under the impetus of Maisaf, an African students' residence.
