TÉCHINÉ, ANDRÉ

Director, film critic, and screenwriter. Before directing films, André Téchiné worked as a critic atCahiers du cinémafrom 1964 to 1967 and later as an assistant toJacques Rivetteand Marc'O. His first feature wasPaulina s'en va(1975), which starsBulle Ogier. It was followed bySouvenirs d'en France(1975), starringJeanne Moreau.

Téchiné's most acclaimed films to date areLes roseaux sauvages(1994), which received thePrix Louis-Delluc, and Césars for Best Director, Best Film, and Best Screenplay in 1995, andRendez-vous, which won him Best Director atCannesa decade earlier.Les roseaux sauvagesstarsÉlodie Bouchez, who received a Most Promising Actress award at the César Awards and Best Actress at Cannes for her role. Stéphane Rideau and Gaël Morel were both nominated for Césars for Most Promising Actor. Rideau also plays the lead in Téchiné'sLoin(2001).
