DANISH SEINE

Danish seine: translation

The main form of boat seine in Australia, used on the continental shelf out to its edge to fish along the sea floor. In reality \'fly dragging\', the gear is set in a pear shape with the net at the base of the pear and the ropes making up the sides; it is retrieved by a combination of the forward movement of the vessel to close the net and the hauling of the ropes using a powered winch; see also purse seine.
