English(esp.U.S.): short form of the much rarer full name Zebulun, borne in the Bible by the sixth son of Leah and Jacob. The name may mean ‘exaltation’, although Leah derives it from another meaning of theHebrewrootzabal, namely ‘to dwell’: ‘now will my husband dwell with me, because I have borne him six sons’ (Genesis 30: 20). It appears in theNew Testament(Matthew 4: 13) in the formZabulon.
