BATHSHEBA

Bathsheba: translation

Bathshebaf
Biblicalname, meaning ‘daughter of the oath’ inHebrew. This was the name of the woman who became the wife of King David, after he had disposed of her husband Uriah, and mother of King Solomon (2 Samuel 11–12). It was popular with the Puritans in England, no doubt because of the great beauty attributed to the biblical character.
Variant:Jewish: Batsheva (the modernHebrewform).
