TIANFENG

[Heavenly Wind]
Protestant journal
Tianfeng was founded in February 1945 as a liberal Christian journal published by the YMCA press. Among the founders was the famous Wu Yaozong (Y.T.Wu), chairman after 1950 of the Three-Self Patriotic Movement (TPSM). Wu also Published in Tianfeng some of his most important theological articles that laid the foundation for the TSPM. After 1949 the magazine became the official organ of the TSPM and its contents were very politicized during the 1950s and the 1960s, reflecting the ongoing political turmoil in society.
Tianfeng stopped publishing in 1964, only to start again in late 1980s as a monthly. It has been the leading and sometimes only Christian journal available in China, and it is the only Protestant magazine officially to be sold abroad. Today, the national committee of the TSPM and the China Christian Council (CCC) publishes Tianfeng jointly in Shanghai. The magazine conveys official information from the TSPM and the CCC, disseminates government religious affairs policies, and also publishes spiritual and devotional articles that cater to the needs of ordinary congregation members. Tianfeng also carries news briefs from congregations around China.
