UROPORPHYRINOGEN I SYNTHETASE

An enzyme of haem biosynthesis that is defective in the inherited (autosomal dominant) disease, acute intermittent porphyria. UP I is isomerised to UP III by UP III synthetase, defective in the autosomal recessive disease, congenital erythropoietic porphyria.
