NCAM

NCAM: translation

(= neural cell adhesion molecule)
One of the first of the CAMs to be isolated from chick brain. Part of the immunoglobulin superfamily - as is NgCAM (neural-glial CAM). Initially defined by adhesion-blocking antiserum. Thought to be important in divalent-cation independent (LI) intercellular adhesion of neural and some embryonic cells. See also neuroglian.
