IBD: translation

(= inflammatory bowel disease; identity by descent)
(1) General term that covers two different inflammatory disorders of the bowel, Crohn&’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
(2) Two genes at a locus have identity by descent (IBD) if they were both inherited from a common ancestor. Important in linkage studies for disease susceptibility.
