ZIPPORAH

Zipporah: translation

Israelite woman, wife ofMoses. She was the daughter of Jethro, priest of Midian. She travelled to Egypt withMosesto plead with Pharoah for the release of the Israelites; on the journey she saved the life of her son Gershom by circumcising him (Exodus 4:24-26). She returned alone to her father, with her sons Gershom andEliezer; Jethro later took them to rejoinMoseson Mount Sinai (Exodus 18:1).
