PHILIPPSON, FRANZ

(1851-1925)

Belgian financier and communal leader, son ofLudwig Philippson. He was born in Magdeburg. He established a bank in Belgium in 1871. Later he was president of the Belgian Congo railway company and a founder of the Belgian Congo Bank. He served as president of the Jewish community in Brussels and contributed to Jewish colonization in Argentina and Brazil.
