PEREIRE, JACOB RODRIGUEZ

(1715-80)
French educator and communal leader. He was born into a marrano family in Berlangua, Spain, and went to France, where he embraced Judaism. He was a teacher of deaf mutes, and his work was recognized by Louis XV. He was also an inventor. Active in Jewish spheres, he was a counsellor of the Sephardi community in Paris from 1749.
