MARIAMNE

Mariamne: translation

(760-29 BCE)
Israelite queen, daughter ofAlexander(son ofAristobulus II) and grand-daughter ofJohn Hyrcanus. She was the second wife ofHerodthe Great, though she hated him because he had killed nearly all the members of her family, and had replaced her own dynasty (the Hasmoneans) with his own. Herod eventually put her to death.
