LAVRY, MARC

(1903-67)
Israeli composer and conductor. He was born in Riga, and was active as a conductor in Riga, Saarbrücken, and Berlin. In 1935 he settled in Palestine, where he conducted at the Opera Amamit and for the Palestine Broadcasting Service. In 1949 he became director of the music section of the Kol Zion la-Golah broadcasting service. Later he settled in Haifa. His composi-tions include an opera, a Sabbath morning service, symphonic poems, oratorios and music for the stage.
