LANDOWSKA,WANDA

(1879-1959)
Polish musician.She studied with the Chopin interpreter, Michalowski, at the Warsaw Conservatory. In 1895 she went to Berlin to study counterpoint and composition. In 1900 she eloped with the musician Henry Lew to Paris. From 1909 she devoted herself to the revival of the harpsi-chord. She began playing the harpsichord in public in 1903and taught harpsichord at the Berlin Hochschule fur Musik. Later she went to Switzerland and settled in Paris. She began recording and embarked on a series of tours. In 1925 she founded the School for Ancient Music at Saint-Leu-la-Foret. She eventually settled in the US.
