American scholar. He was born in Brooklyn. He became professor of philosophy and president of Yeshiva University. His publications includeA Hedge of Roses,The Royal Reach,Faith and Doubt,Torah LishmahandThe Good Society. He has also served as the editor of the Library of Jewish Law and Ethics.
