FINKELSTEIN, LOUIS

(1895-1991)
American Conservative rabbi, scholar and educator. He was born in Cincinnati. He began teaching at the Jewish Theological Seminary in 1920 and later became president and chancellor there. He served as president of the Rabbinical Assembly from 1928 to 1930. He wrote and edited books and articles on general problems in religion, sociology, culture, and ethics. His publications includePharisees,Jews:Their History,Culture and ReligionandJewish Self-Government in the Middle Ages.
