IGNATOV, DAVID

(1885-1954)
American Yiddish author. He was born in the Ukraine and was active in the revolutionary movement in Kiev in 1903-6 before he emigrated to the US. He was one of the founders of the eastern European literary group Di Yunge, and edited various literary journals. He was one of the creators of the modern Yiddish novel and also reworked H asidic tales and medieval Jewish fables. His stories describe the lives of Jewish workers in the US.
