GUTTMANN, MICHAEL

(1872-1942)
Hungarian talmudic scholar. He lectured on Jewish law at the Budapest Rabbinical Seminary from 1907 to 1921. He was then rabbi and professor of Talmud and halakhah at the Breslau Jewish theological seminary (1921-33), of which he became head in 1933. He published studies of rabbinic literature and began work on a talmudic encyclopaedia.
