GEDALIAH

Gedaliah: translation

(fl. 6th cent BCE)
Babylonian governor of Judah. He was appointed after the destruction of the First Temple in 586 BCE, and resided at Mizpah. He was murdered byIshmael ben Nethaniah, who hoped to overthrow Babylonian rule.
