GALICH, ALEXANDER

(1919-77)
Ukrainian poet, songwriter and dramatist. He was born in Yekaterinoslav. In the 1960s he was baptized into the Russian Orthodox Church, and was later expelled from the Writers' Union. In 1974 he left the USSR and settled in Munich and Paris. His works include comic ballads, and songs and poems on the Holocaust and the Stalinist camps.
