EHRENPREIS, MARCUS

(1869-1951)
Swedish rabbi and author. He was born in Lemberg, and served as rabbi in Djakovo, Croatia from 1869 to 1900. He later became chief rabbi of Sofia, and from 1914 of Stockholm. At the request ofTheodor Herzlhe translated the invitation to the First Zionist Congress into Hebrew; he acted as consultant on cultural matters at Zionist congresses. He translated modern Hebrew literature into Swedish, founded a Jewish Swedish journal, and edited a Jewish encyclo-paedia in Swedish.
