EGER, JUDAH LEIB

(1816-88)
Polish Hasidic leader. He was born in Warsaw and led a Hasidic congre-gation in Lublin. After the death of Menahem Mendel of Kotsk in 1859, he assumed the role of tzaddik and propounded his own teaching. He spent much time in prayer, devoting himself to it with fervour accompanied by weeping and loud cries. His teachings on the law and festivals were arranged by his son Abraham inTorat EmetandImrei Emet.
