EGER, AKIVA BEN MOSES

(1761-1837)
German rabbi. He was born in Eisenstadt and served as a rabbi at Markisch-Friedland in 1791, and from 1814 at Posen, where he established a yeshivah. As one of the foremost rabbinic authorities in Europe, he opposed the Reform movement. He published glosses on the Mishnah and the Talmud, as well as numerous responsa.
