English writer. She was born in London. In 1842 she publishedThe Spirit of Judaism:In Defence of her Faith and its Professors. HerRecords of Israel:Two Tales and Women of Israelpresented idealized pictures of Jewish life in Spain and women in the Bible. Her own beliefs are contained inThe Jewish Faith,its Spiritual Consolation,Moral Guidance and Immortal Hope. She also published popular novels dealing with Jewish life.
