THALAMIC EXPERIENTIAL HALLUCINOSIS

The term thalamic experiential hallucinosis is indebted to the medical Latin name thalamus, which in turn comes from the Greek wordtha-lamos(sleeping room, inside room). It is used to denote a hallucinatory state associated with infarction of the thalamus. Hallucinations occurring in the context of thalamic experiential hallucinosis have been described as visual and auditory in nature. Conceptually, the condition may be seen as a variant of * peduncular hallucinosis and * brainstem auditory hallucinosis. As a noso-logical category, it is classified as a specific type of * hallucinosic syndrome.
